2008 has been a year of phenomenal highs and tremendous lows. The major highlight of the year was the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. Clearly change is in the air. Change has definitely come to the music industry through the advances of technology – from recording to purchasing. The new millennium has brought change to how we digitally make music to how we now digitally buy music. However the future looks bright. We’ve got a new administration about to take over the country. And we’ve got new technology so that artists and fans can connect with each other. The present, which was the future just yesterday, has brought us viral videos which are ideal for online promotions. Digital sales have taken over going to the now obsolete record store. Through digital sales, people all over the world can purchase and download music, any and all times of the day and night. Digital technology has even brought us music to our phones in the form of ringtones. There are many more profit centers in the music business now
But one of the things that has not changed is the importance of the “live” performance of the artist. Though we all like to hear our favorite artist’s music on the radio, iPod or home stereo, there’s nothing like the “live” performance of the artist.
Blues & Soul music artists have always been some of the hardest working entertainers in the industry. They truly represent and carry on one of America’s only true original art forms through their performances. The artists that jam the music are revered by adoring fans for their musicianship, vocalizations and style.
Though there are many players involved in the business of music that add value like the labels, marketing & promotion, radio – terrestrial and satellite, attorneys, investors and road crews. At the end of the day, there are only two players in the music business that matter – the artists and the fans. I am a music fan and very proud to represent artists and be a part of carrying on the magnificent tradition of Blues & Soul music through the Arts, education, business and philanthropic events of the JBMF.
As Blues & Soul music lovers, the JBMF can certainly utilize your support for our initiatives of the Jus` Blues In the Schools music program, the 2009 JBMF Technology Conference, the Night of the Living Legends Dinner and the annual Jus` Blues Music Awards Show which will be held August 5th thru 8th on Beale Street in the Home of the Blues, Memphis Tennessee. Today we are asking you to show your support not only for our organization but also for great Blues & Soul music. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Jus` Blues Music Foundation, please continue to support us so we can continue to support your affection for great Blues & Soul music. Be Blessed with continued success! Charles Mitchell Founder / President Jus` Blues Music Foundation |
